MICHAEL KIRSCHNER
International network- and communications representative – Fisher of Men
Born in Berlin, our socializing manager has grown up in four different cultures. As a small child he emigrated with mum, grandma and aunt to Canada. When he came to California (San Francisco) at teenage he immediately fell in love with the car culture of the Golden State. But still he maintained contacts to Germany, jumping across the pond at least twice a year. Later on, he moved from the USA to the UK and opened a record shop in Oxford.“Just along the way“ he organized concerts with artists like Lou Reed or The Eagles. The love of music had taken possession of him at a very young age already, therefore he dedicates a great part of his life to it.
At some point he decided to move from Oxford to Amsterdam and establish another record store there. Via Toronto he returned to Germany, Hamburg to be precise. He worked as tour and product manager for Warner Bros music label there, being responsible for tour organization and artist support, working with icons like Led Zeppelin, The Police, Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Chick Corea, Rod Stewart, Al Jarreau, and many more.
Still in Hamburg, he opened a design and furniture shop in the 80s, called DRASTIC PLASTIC, specialized in American design memorabilia.
With the dawn of the 90s Michael was ready to set out again - back to San Francisco... Everything had come full circle when he met Thom Piston there in the late 90s, and they decided to open the Flying Piston Gallery in Berlin. Their mission: bringing US Pop- and Rock (Poster-) Art to Germany. Michael Kirschner was the man in charge concerning communication with US-artists. When finally the first group art shows – GANG BANGs – took place, featuring artists like FIREHOUSE, EMEK, Chris Shaw or Marco Almera, he was responsible for booking, support, event- and exhibition management.
Today he is travelling around the world as salesman and expert for music-, design-, and Kustom Kulture memorabilia – unresting and always open and avid for new things. Due to his very refined style and an incredible knowledge about the history of design he´s one hell of a luminary when it comes to life-style and –quality.
Substance, quality, diversity, mental and physical agility, truth and humanity are the essences of his life-philosophy. His actions and the communication with customers and artists are characterized by broad- and open-mindedness towards all kinds of people, cultures or genres.
His quest for authenticity, originality and things being different (far from conventional patterns of reception and thought) is also reflected by his selection of artists and partners who – when working together with him – are pushed without being deprived of individual freedom.
